Age Calculator

Calculate exact age in years, months, and days from a birth date.

Why use an age calculator?

Working out an exact age in your head is deceptively hard: months vary in length, leap years shift the count, and “how old will they be on the cutoff date” is a different question from “how old are they today”. This does the calendar arithmetic properly, in years, months and days, as of any date you choose.

How it works

  1. Enter the date of birth.
  2. Leave the “As of” date as today, or set it to any past or future date.
  3. Read the exact age, plus the countdown to the next birthday.
  4. Change either date to compare instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I calculate age as of a different date, not just today?

Yes — change the "As of" date to calculate exact age at any point in time, e.g. for a specific event or eligibility cutoff.

How is the exact years/months/days figure calculated?

It counts full calendar years, then full months within the current year, then remaining days — the same method used on official age-verification forms.

How does it handle leap years and 29 February birthdays?

Real calendar lengths are used throughout, so leap days are counted correctly. A 29 February birthday is treated as falling on 1 March in non-leap years, which is the common legal convention in most countries.

Why does my age in months not match years × 12?

Because months vary in length. The months figure counts complete calendar months since your last birthday, so it reflects the actual calendar rather than an average.

Can I work out how many days until my next birthday?

Yes — the result includes the countdown to your next birthday alongside your current exact age.

Can I use it to calculate someone's age at a past event?

Yes. Set the birth date as normal and change the "As of" date to the date of the event to get their exact age at that moment.

Does it work for future dates?

Yes. Setting an "As of" date in the future tells you how old someone will be then — handy for checking eligibility cutoffs in advance.

Is it accurate for legal or official use?

The arithmetic is exact, but different institutions apply their own conventions around leap days and cutoff times. Treat it as accurate for everyday use and confirm edge cases with the body concerned.

Can I calculate the gap between two dates generally?

Yes. The tool measures the interval between any two dates, so it works for anniversaries, project durations or service length, not just ages.

Is my birth date stored or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser — nothing is saved or transmitted.
