Why convert between image formats?

Each format is good at a different job: WebP is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality and is the right default for the web, PNG is lossless and the only one of the three that keeps transparency, and JPG remains the most universally accepted for photos. Converting lets you match the file to where it's going instead of shipping the wrong one.

How it works

  1. Add one image or a whole batch.
  2. Pick your target format — WebP, PNG or JPG.
  3. Convert, and compare the resulting file sizes.
  4. Download individually or all at once.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which format should I choose?

WebP gives the smallest file size for web use. PNG is best for graphics, logos, and anything needing transparency. JPG is the most universally compatible for photos.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPG?

JPG doesn't support transparency, so any transparent areas are flattened onto a white background. PNG and WebP both keep transparency intact.

Does converting reduce image quality?

Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG or WebP re-encodes the image, which is lossy — the difference is usually invisible, but repeatedly converting the same file between lossy formats will gradually soften it.

Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

Only if your browser can decode HEIC, which most desktop browsers cannot. Safari on a Mac or iPhone generally can. Otherwise, export as JPG on the device first.

Is WebP supported everywhere?

Yes, in every current browser, and it's a safe default for websites. Very old software and some print workflows still expect JPG or PNG, so keep a copy if you need maximum compatibility.

Should I use WebP or JPG for photos on a website?

WebP, in almost every case — it's typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at comparable quality and is now universally supported in browsers.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Add multiple files and the chosen output format is applied to all of them in a single pass.

Does converting strip EXIF and location data?

Yes. The image is redrawn through a canvas, so camera settings and GPS coordinates are not carried over — useful if you're sharing photos publicly.

Why is my converted PNG larger than the original JPG?

PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel exactly rather than approximating them. Converting a photo from JPG to PNG almost always increases file size without improving visible quality.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser via the Canvas API — nothing is uploaded to a server.
