Why resize an image?
Uploading a 4000-pixel-wide photo to a page that displays it at 400 makes visitors download roughly a hundred times more data than they need — the single most common cause of a slow page. Resizing to the size an image is actually shown at cuts the file dramatically with no visible difference, and gets you under the upload limits that forms and email clients enforce.
How it works
- Add one image or a whole batch.
- Set exact pixel dimensions, or scale everything by a percentage.
- Keep the aspect ratio locked to avoid stretching.
- Download the resized images individually or together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I resize multiple images at once?
Yes — add several images and the same size or percentage setting is applied to all of them in one pass.
What's the difference between exact size and percentage scale?
Exact size resizes to specific pixel dimensions (optionally locking aspect ratio so height auto-adjusts). Percentage scale shrinks or enlarges each image relative to its own original size — handy when resizing a batch of differently-sized images by the same proportion.
Does resizing reduce image quality?
Resizing down generally looks sharp. Enlarging an image beyond its original resolution can look softer, since no new detail is invented — this is a limitation of any resizing method, not just this tool.
What does locking the aspect ratio do?
It keeps the original width-to-height proportion, so setting one dimension calculates the other automatically. Unlock it only if you intentionally want to stretch or squash the image.
What size should I use for a website?
Match the pixel size the image is actually displayed at, then double it for sharpness on high-density screens. A banner shown at 800px wide is usually best exported at 1600px.
Is resizing the same as compressing?
No. Resizing changes the pixel dimensions; compressing reduces file size at the same dimensions. Resizing usually shrinks the file too, and the two are often combined — the image compressor handles the second half.
What formats can I resize?
JPG, PNG, WebP and other formats your browser can display. The output keeps a widely compatible format so it opens anywhere.
Will resizing strip EXIF and location data?
Yes. The image is redrawn through a canvas, so camera metadata and GPS coordinates are not carried into the resized file.
How do I resize for a profile picture or thumbnail?
Check the dimensions the platform asks for, crop to that shape first if it's square, then resize to the exact pixel size with aspect ratio locked.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Resizing happens entirely in your browser via the Canvas API — nothing is uploaded to a server.
