Why pull the text out of a PowerPoint?
A .pptx file is a zipped bundle of XML — paste it into an AI tool and you get nothing useful. Extracting just the words gives you something you can summarise, rewrite or turn into a document, with the slide order preserved so the narrative still makes sense.
How it works
- Drop in your .pptx file.
- Each slide's title, body text and speaker notes are extracted in order.
- Order comes from the presentation's own slide list, so it matches PowerPoint.
- Copy the Markdown, with every slide under its own heading.
Frequently Asked Questions
What gets extracted from each slide?
The slide title, all body text (bullet points, text boxes), and speaker notes, in that order. Images, charts, and exact visual layout are not included — this tool is for pulling out the words.
Does slide order match what I see in PowerPoint?
Yes. Order is read from the presentation's own slide list, not from the internal file names — so it stays correct even if slides were reordered or duplicated inside PowerPoint.
Are speaker notes included?
Yes, under each slide as a blockquote, but only if that slide actually has notes.
Does it work with Google Slides or Keynote files?
Only the .pptx format is supported. Export from Google Slides or Keynote as PowerPoint (.pptx) first.
Why convert a deck to Markdown?
A .pptx is a zipped bundle of XML that an AI model can't read directly. Markdown gives you just the words, in slide order, ready to paste into a prompt for summarising, rewriting or turning into a document.
What happens to text inside charts, images and SmartArt?
Text baked into an image isn't extracted, since there's nothing to read without OCR. Text in ordinary text boxes and placeholders comes through normally.
Are hidden slides included?
Every slide in the presentation's slide list is read, so hidden slides generally appear too. Delete rather than hide any slide you don't want in the output.
Can I get the text of just one slide?
The whole deck is converted at once, but the output is plain Markdown with each slide under its own heading — so copying a single section out is straightforward.
Is there a size limit on the presentation?
No fixed limit. Unzipping and parsing happen in your browser's memory, so very large decks with many embedded images take slightly longer to open.
Is my presentation uploaded anywhere?
No. The .pptx file is unzipped and read entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server.
